My Kinetic Sketch

I get a lot of junk sent to me by friends via email. Chain letters, jokes, those crappy and hardly ever humorous DIY 'inspirational' posters, etc. But earlier today a friend sent me the link to Kinetic Sketch. This has got to be one of the funnest and most beautiful time wasters on the web that I have seen to date.

It is a very clever flash application that lets visitors create some really quick and interesting pieces of abstract art.

The image above is something I produced in about thirty seconds. I don't think it will auction for millions of dollars anytime soon, but I do think it's pretty.

Tropical Depression Dances Western Cuba and Yucatan

E-mail Print PDF

Tropical Depression 2009-06-27

The National Hurricane Center (NHC) is showing that another tropical depression has formed just south of the Gulf Of Mexico. While this one is not terribly organized, it still manages to dump some rain on western Cuba and the eastern shores of the Yucatan. Meteoroligists at the NHC are giving this system between a 30 to 50 percent chance of becoming a tropicle cyclone within the next forty-eight hours.

Once it moves into the southern Gulf Of Mexico, conditions may be more favorable for this system to become more organized.

If it does turn into a tropical storm or hurrican after entering the gulf, I hope all of you residents of the gulf coast have your hurricane preparedness supplies and plans ready.

UPDATE (2009-06-28): The NHC has announced that this system has lost some of its 'oomf', and now has less than a 30% chance of developing into a tropical cyclone within the next 48 hours.

UPDATE (2009-06-29): This system degraded to nothing last night.

South Florida Public Workers Need To Go Back To 'Scohol'!

E-mail Print PDF

School Mispelled

Evidently basic literacy, a working grasp of the spoken and written english language are not requirements to hold a job with the Miami-Dade Public Works. Our tax dollars are well spent to maintain the quality hiring practices to insure that our public workers know how to do their job.

So, how do we explain the image above that was snapped from a freshly painted 'Scolol' Zone marker on a street? Maybe it's a cry for help from our public workers? Could they be crying out 'We need to go back to Scohol!!'?

You just can't make this up.

Some Tropical Grumblings In The Gulf

E-mail Print PDF

Visible Weather in Gulf Of Mexico

Meteorologists at the National Hurricane Center are keeping an eye on an ominous brewing of clouds in the western edge of the Gulf Of Mexico - just north of the Yucatan Peninsula.

Those of you living near the coast in Mexico and South Texas can relax. The eggheads at the NHC are projecting less than a 30% chance of this cloud system developing any tropical cyclone activity within the next fourty-eight hours. For now, it looks like some Mexicans are going to get some nice showers in this summer heat.

As a precaution, those of you local to this system, keep your radios and televisions tuned to catch any alerts just in case this weather system gets any larger or more organized.

Changed The Look of EmmonsNet

E-mail Print PDF

I got tired of using one of the default templates that comes with Joomla. The template is called JA_Purity and though it may look nice to a lot of people, I personally did not like the choice of colors or how the pages laid out.

Even though I could have created a whole new custom template for the site, I just do not have the time to do that right now. I am not saying I won't in the future - but at this time I opted to use a pre-made template.

I opted to use the jw_clean_pro template from JoomlaWeb. I have to do a few tweeks to the custom code module that wraps the Google 'Computer Word Of The Day' Gagdet - but that will take me less time that building a whole new template.
